about ochlos

Why Ochlos.

A Christ-centered place to gather — built to be a community, not a platform.

The heart behind Ochlos

Ochlos (ock-lohs) comes from the Greek word often translated the crowd or the multitude — the ordinary people who gathered around Jesus. Ochlos exists because we believe meaningful Christian community still matters.

Somewhere along the way, the internet became driven by algorithms, engagement metrics, advertising, and the optimization of attention — and we think something valuable was lost. The internet once helped people connect: conversations, friendships, shared interests, real community. Ochlos is an attempt to reclaim some of that spirit, and to center it on Christ.

Our goal is not to build a platform. Our goal is to build a community — a place where believers encourage one another, pray together, grow together, share life, and make real friends.

As that community grows, we hope Ochlos becomes a welcoming place for anyone exploring Christianity, returning to faith, looking for answers, curious about Jesus, seeking community, or searching for a church home. Many of us have had seasons of feeling lost, disconnected, or adrift — so we want Ochlos to be easy to enter, easy to take part in, and easy to belong to.

Help people connect with God, and connect with one another. That’s the whole idea.

What makes Ochlos different

No algorithms

No engagement-driven feed engineered to maximize screen time. We are not trying to capture your attention or keep you endlessly scrolling.

No data harvesting

We do not collect your information to sell it, and we are not building this around advertising revenue.

No status competition

No follower counts, no popularity metrics, no chasing validation. People matter more than numbers.

Community before technology

Technology should serve relationships — never the other way around. We want people connecting with people.

  • ·Room notifications — follow a room, and when someone wants company there, they can let followers know so people gather in real time.
  • ·Room participation visibility, community-driven room creation, and collapsible room navigation.

Prayer

One of the foundations of Ochlos.

The Prayer Room is a live place to pray together, encourage one another, and ask for prayer in the moment. The Prayer Wall holds requests — submitted directly or shared from the Prayer Room, and reviewed before they appear — so the community can pray, encourage, and celebrate answered prayer with comments, "Amen," and praise reports.

Social

Open →

Where relationships grow.

Share updates, scripture, and photos; encourage one another; celebrate answered prayer; stay connected. It is intentionally not built like modern social media — the feed leans toward the friends you are connected with while still making room for the wider community. Relationship-building, not popularity ranking.

Verse Wall

Open →

Keep God’s Word visible.

Members share the scripture that has encouraged, challenged, inspired, or strengthened them. Submissions are reviewed before publication to keep the wall a place of life.

Discover

Open →

A trusted collection, recommended by the community.

A growing Christian resource center — churches, ministries, pastors, podcasts, music, videos, apps, websites, Bible studies, service opportunities, and more.

Help Discover grow.

Recommend resources for Discover. Everything is reviewed before publication — community participation is what makes the collection worth trusting.

Donations

Built to serve, not to maximize revenue.

Our long-term goal is nonprofit operation. Gifts help cover hosting, development, moderation, community growth, and ministry. And if you cannot give financially, you can give in other ways — by participating, praying, encouraging, recommending resources, and showing up.

Safety & community standards

Some community features require a free account, and a few have age requirements that help keep the environment appropriate for everyone. Ochlos follows applicable online safety practices, and our community standards exist to encourage respectful, Christ-centered interaction.

In short: be kind, be honest, and treat people the way you’d want to be treated in a room full of friends.

Ochlos isn’t trying to become another social platform. It’s trying to be a Christ-centered community where people gather, encourage one another, grow in faith, and help draw others toward Jesus through real relationships.
