Statement of Faith
Our Foundation
Ochlos is a community centered on Jesus Christ, grounded in Scripture, and committed to helping people know God, grow in faith, encourage one another, and live out the gospel in everyday life. We seek to unite Christians around the essential truths of the historic Christian faith while respecting differences on secondary matters.
-
The Bible
We believe the Holy Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is inspired by God, truthful and trustworthy, and our authoritative guide for faith, teaching, and Christian living. Scripture reveals God's character, His purposes, and His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.
2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21; Psalm 119:105; John 17:17
-
The One True God
We believe there is one living and eternal God, Creator and Sustainer of all things, perfect in holiness, love, justice, wisdom, and power. He eternally exists as three distinct persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—one God, equal in deity and glory.
Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Genesis 1:1
-
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man. Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, He lived without sin, revealed the Father, died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, and ascended into heaven. He is our only Savior, Lord, and mediator, and He will return in glory.
John 1:1–14; Luke 1:34–35; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; 1 Timothy 2:5; Acts 1:9–11
-
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is fully God and works to convict the world of sin, bring people to new life in Christ, dwell within believers, illuminate Scripture, and empower us for holy living, spiritual growth, service, and witness. The Spirit gives gifts to believers for building up the body of Christ.
John 14:16–17, 26; John 16:8–13; Romans 8:9–14; 1 Corinthians 12:4–7; Galatians 5:22–23
-
Humanity and Sin
We believe every person is created in the image of God and therefore possesses inherent dignity and worth. Humanity was created for relationship with God and others, yet all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. Sin separates us from God and makes us dependent upon His mercy and grace.
Genesis 1:26–27; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:1–5
-
Salvation by Grace Through Faith
We believe salvation is God's gift of grace, received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ—not earned by good works or religious effort. Through Christ's sacrificial death and resurrection, God forgives sin, reconciles believers to Himself, and gives eternal life. Those who trust in Christ are made new and called to follow Him as Lord.
John 3:16–17; Ephesians 2:8–10; Romans 10:9–13; 2 Corinthians 5:17–21; Titus 3:4–7
-
Growing as Disciples
We believe following Jesus is a lifelong journey of growing in faith, obedience, love, and holiness through the work of the Holy Spirit. Prayer, Scripture, worship, fellowship, confession, and service help us mature in Christ. Good works are the fruit of salvation, not the means of earning it.
Luke 9:23; Romans 12:1–2; Galatians 5:16–25; Colossians 2:6–7; James 2:17
-
The Church and Christian Community
We believe the universal Church is the body of Christ, composed of all who belong to Him through faith. Christians are called to participate in local church life, gather for worship, learn God's Word, practice baptism and the Lord's Supper, encourage one another, and serve together. Christian community extends beyond a weekly gathering into everyday life.
Ochlos seeks to strengthen connection, discipleship, and service between gatherings, not replace the local church or its pastoral leadership.
Acts 2:42–47; 1 Corinthians 12:12–27; Ephesians 4:11–16; Hebrews 10:24–25
-
Our Calling to Love and Serve
We believe Jesus commands us to love God wholeheartedly and love our neighbors as ourselves. Our faith should be expressed through compassion, generosity, integrity, justice, peacemaking, and practical care for those in need. Every believer is called to steward the time, abilities, relationships, and resources God has entrusted to them.
Matthew 22:37–40; Micah 6:8; Matthew 25:35–40; James 1:27; 1 Peter 4:10
-
Sharing the Gospel
We believe Jesus calls His followers to make disciples of all nations by sharing the good news of salvation, teaching His commands, and demonstrating His love. We seek to communicate the gospel with truth, humility, gentleness, and respect, inviting others to know and follow Christ.
Matthew 28:18–20; Acts 1:8; Romans 10:14–15; 1 Peter 3:15
-
Marriage, Family, and Relationships
We believe God created people for faithful, loving relationships and established marriage as a covenant union of one man and one woman. Families and Christian communities are called to nurture faith, honor the dignity of every person, care for the vulnerable, and practice mutual love, forgiveness, responsibility, and faithfulness.
Genesis 2:18–24; Matthew 19:4–6; Ephesians 5:21–33; Ephesians 6:1–4; Colossians 3:12–14
-
Christ's Return and Eternal Hope
We believe Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly, God will judge the living and the dead, and He will bring His redemptive purposes to completion. We affirm the bodily resurrection, everlasting life with God for those who belong to Christ, and final judgment for those who reject Him. Our hope rests in God's promise of a new heaven and new earth where righteousness dwells.
John 5:28–29; Acts 17:30–31; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; Revelation 20:11–15; Revelation 21:1–5
Our Commitment
With Jesus Christ at the center and Scripture as our authority, Ochlos seeks to be a welcoming Christian community where people can encounter the gospel, deepen their relationship with God, build meaningful relationships, and encourage one another to put faith into action every day.
